Every part of Iceland is incredible, but the Icelandic South Coast is my absolute favorite! It’s one of the most picturesque and stunning regions in the country, offering a perfect mix of towering waterfalls, rugged cliffs, and sweeping black sand beaches—all within a single day’s journey.
This area is so unique that it’s often featured in movies and music videos, and it’s easy to see why. The South Coast captures the wild, untamed beauty of Iceland like no other place. As we explore together, you’ll experience the magic of this region up close, feeling the power of nature with every step.

Before our expedition, I will pick you up directly from your accommodation or the place of your choice in the Reykjavik area.
GLJÚFRABÚI WATERFALL
Gljúfrabúi 40m (131 ft) waterfall is one of Iceland’s most gorgeous hidden gems. It’s tough to find a place that is so unique and unrealistic as Gljúfrabúi. I will say no more, and I’m so excited to take you there!
SELJALANDSFOSS WATERFALL
Thanks to the melting glacier cap of the well-known hero of the year 2010, Eyjafjallajokull. Today we have a chance to admire one of the most exciting waterfalls in Iceland.
Seljalandsfoss is a 60m high (200 ft) waterfall.
What makes this waterfall so special is the path that allows my guests to walk behind the waterfall in the summer.
SKÓGAFOSS WATERFALL
Skógafoss is wide at 25 m (80 ft), 60m high (200 ft) waterfall.
You can experience his charm in two ways. First, if you are not afraid to get a bit wet, the flat surrounding underneath allows you to walk right up to the waterfall.
The second way is the viewing platform at the top of the waterfall. If we are blessed with sunny weather, you will have a chance to admire often a double Rainbow at Skogafoss.
DYRHÓLAEY
Dyrhólaey cliffs are approximately 120m high (390ft) and form a small peninsula with a historical lighthouse.
Dyrhólaey is home to a large Puffins population between May and September.
When the weather is good, it’s a perfect place to admire magnificent views of the Mýrdalsjökull glaciers, the black sand beach, and the massive rock formations of volcanic origins.
REYNISFJARA
According to National Geographic, Reynisfjara is one of the Top 10 non-tropical beaches you should visit.
This famous black-sand beach is located in the middle of the Icelandic South Coast near the small village of Vík.
With basalt columns, a cave, black sand, and Reynisdrangar 66m(216 ft) rock pillars, Reynisfjara is truly a unique place.
SÓLHEIMAJÖKULL
We will come close to the Sólheimajökull, a glacial tongue, part of the Myrdalsjokull ice cap, which is home to one of Iceland’s most active volcanoes, Katla.
Sólheimajökull offers breathtaking views of Iceland’s rugged landscape and is a popular spot for glacier hiking and ice climbing.
I will be happy to arrange a 2-3 hours glacier hike at an additional price.
KVERNUFOSS WATERFALL
A short and enjoyable hike through the surrounding canyon will lead us straight to the second hidden gem of the Icelandic South Coast.
Kvernufoss is a 30m high (98 ft) waterfall. And just like at Skogafoss, Skogafoss, we may be fortunate enough to witness a lovely rainbow on a sunny day while admiring its beauty.

The best day of the week I had in Iceland was Mike’s tour of the south of Iceland! He picked us up early outside our hotel, wasted no time making us feel comfortable, and even got us acquainted with the other people in our small group. I didn’t have proper outdoor equipment, but he came prepared with raincoats and spikes, which were essential on the ice. When our airline lost our baggage containing warm clothes, he kindly lent us his own.
The best part, aside from the amazing spots he took us to, was that he captured so many photos for us—using our phones, his phone, and his big camera—so we could preserve every moment.
And lastly, his van! It was so comfortable even when fully occupied, and its massive tires definitely kept us safe on the slippery, icy roads.

I have never been and probably will never go on a tour as good as the South Coast tour I went on with Mike.
Mike is knowledgeable, equipped, funny and a great photographer. Mike thinks of everything! Cream on the most delicious hot chocolate, extra waterproof jackets and trousers for the group to wear, sunglasses, crampons, phone chargers, the list just goes on.
With Mike you are in the safest hands and he has the best recommendations. We went to a lovely place for lunch on the tour and Mike gave us other recommendations for eating out on the rest of our trip. As an avid follower of TripAdvisor reviews when traveling or looking for nice hotels and restaurants, I was amazed to see all the positive reviews for Arctic Mike and knew I had to go with him to the South Coast. My wife and I were not disappointed.
Mike picked us up at our hotel in a new Mercedes 4-wheel drive van that was super clean and comfortable. We traveled to the South Coast and visited some amazing waterfalls, stopped for a great lunch, and visited puffins along the black sand beach.
We walked to the Mýrdalsjökull glacier and constantly enjoyed the scenery all around us. Mike is a wealth of information on Iceland and its history and is easy and fun to converse with.

We did two full days with him, the first day was around the golden circle including some of the hidden treasures that tourists don’t often get to see while also still hitting all the must sees in the golden circle! Under no circumstances book with anyone else! Mike is amazing! He is funny, a great storyteller, part folklore expert, and part historian.
He is also one hell of a photographer and drone pilot. If he saw a great shot, he would use his own camera and then air-drop them to you.
He was able to navigate around all those buses full of people, so no location we visited was ever packed. He took us to great restaurants and provided hot chocolate, which was a blessing on the cold days.
My wife also swears he might be a geologist because of his knowledge of tectonic plates, volcanoes, and glaciers.
Book as soon as you can. He has gone viral because he rocks and quickly fills up!

We did the South Coast Tour in January 2023 with Mike, my daughter and I. It was a full day from morning to evening, and it was the most positive tour experience.
We were picked up directly at our hotel at 8 am. We visited four waterfalls, the black sand beach, horses and glacier and a lovely stop where we could buy lunch.
Mike was both professional, courteous and well prepared. We saw other small tour groups arrive at destinations and they were not provided crampons and rain jackets like us. My friend and I took two tours with Mike – the Golden Circle and the South Coast. We had a great time, and Mike was a terrific guide! Both tours were around 10-11 hours long, but the time flew by, and there was plenty of time to rest. Mike was extremely knowledgeable about every aspect of the tours and Iceland itself. We booked both tours with Mike, the South Coast and the Golden Circle. We had a great time with Mike and on the South Coast it was only us. It was great to hear Mike’s stories about everything and he was very attentive to our needs and always happy to help. Sorry we were quite slow so we took 1 hour longer. Mike has WiFi on the car which is very spacious. We enjoyed all the stations be it the waterfalls or the black sand beach and the glacier. It was a great trip and I would definitely recommend it! To tell you how amazing Michal’s tours are, let me say this, we did one and then immediately booked ANOTHER one a couple days later (Golden Circle and South Coast). That is how much we loved his tours! He is knowledgeable, passionate and engaged as a host and tour guide. He will take you to the most beautiful places in Iceland. You get the feel of a tour while not being packed on a bus full of people with limited times at certain spots. We experienced so many amazing things during this tour that by the end it felt like we had seen a weeks worth of sights. He knows all the spots! Obviously, sight seeing in Iceland is wonderful on it’s own, but Michal was very precise with getting us around (even volunteering to be our photographer and having beverages on hand for the chilly weather). He gave us flexible time and space to enjoy each location. We never felt rushed because he planned out everything well. He gives you the perfect balance of being informative while also giving you personal space to enjoy independently. I would highly recommend booking this tour!

We knew immediately that Mike was going to be a great host. He was attentive to details, offered lots of insight, and was genuinely interested in our comfort and enjoyment. We appreciated all the little secrets he knew to make sure we didn’t have to compete with the tourists who were left to figure it out on their own (and miss the coolest, hidden spots). We brought our young daughter along and Mike made her feel very welcome. We had so much fun on our trip and the stops along the way were breathtaking. We highly, highly recommend Mike and his tours.

Two day trip with Mike were amazing and beyond our expectations.
Me and my 10 year old son felt very safe, relaxed and comfortable travelling in such a nice and friendly company.
The places we have seen were obviously breathtaking and I can’t find words to describe it.
Perfect pace with no rush, plenty stops for food, coffee or toilet if we needed.
Most relaxing holiday we have ever had. We definitely didn’t want to leave and would absolutely (hopefully ) return one day.

Forget renting a car rental — leave your time in Iceland to Michal. After partaking in two of his tours (Golden Circle & South Coast), I can tell you that there is no way better to see the sights of the country. Michal is generous with his time, knowledge, and most of all, his kindness. When we said our goodbyes at the end of the second day with him, it truly was parting as friends. Book this experience if you want hit all of the spots (plus some wonderful gems I NEVER would have seen on my own), with a genuine soul.

I took two tours with Mike, I liked the Golden Circle so much I booked the South Coast later that week. The South Coast trip includes so many things, waterfalls, the black beach and Mike’s take on living in Iceland. He’ll even play you some Icelandic folk tales if you want on the drive back.
The vehicle is new and very comfortable. I happened on both trips to meet some very interesting and nice people. Some spots are unique, a lot of my friends who did a south coast tour didn’t get to see the hidden waterfall.
Overall the trip is laid back, the company is good and the trip is “curated” by Mike, who picks the best spot and is just an all round nice guy to spend the day with.
I’ve been all over Iceland on this trip and done a lot of tours. Skip the bus and big crowd of retirees from Florida and London. This tour size is just right. The tours with Mike were the best I’ve had on Iceland.

The south coast trip with Michal was the highlight of our six day trip to Iceland! I was traveling with my mom and my boyfriend. We booked this tour for the last day we were in Iceland, and we are sad that we didn’t do more trips with him. It was a fun, informative, adventurous, and magical day with Mike. For Iceland, Mike is your host, one of the best host experiences, seldomly do meet, tour guides that care more about the people than they do their pockets. He is very genuine and he truly cares about your safety. The tour might seem expensive but Iceland is and it’s totally worth it. If he has anything open, look no further.
